Denny Lyon Gifts: New Design: Too Happy Octopus

Too Happy Octopus Shower Curtain

Check out this happy octopus, a sci-fy thinker!

Denny Lyon Gifts: New Design: Too Happy Octopus: From Denny: It's summer and time to hit the beach! Maybe if you are lucky enough to live in a place like Florida where the beach is year round, maybe not. You can always bring the beach and the denizens of the ocean indoors with this fun design.

This octopus is a real scify thinker and a happy guy sure to make you smile. The design is on all manner of products at Cafe Press/DennyLyonGifts, from handbags and totes to t-shirts and bedding, posters too. Take a look and enjoy browsing my Denny Lyon Gifts site. All my profits go to two charities I really love: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank here in Louisiana (where they feed almost half of the state!)

Thanks for stopping by for a look and please be sure to pass the word on to your friends and relatives to help fund these charities! Thank you!

Music: Amy Winehouse, Her Bright Star Leaving

Amy Winehouse

From Denny: Music legend Amy Winehouse (1983 - 2011) died this week on July 23rd, a victim of too much fame in too short a time, according to one of her closest band members. She was loved by many, all of whom tried to help her with her extreme addictions but to no avail.

Her music, her grab you lyrics, her powerful voice, her intense attitude were all of another era - and all the best eras combined. She was a five time Grammy winner, an R & B Soul tortured torch singer. Music critics and fans alike lauded her and her music. She will be greatly missed.

The good news is she was at work on another album and left us about another seven tracks. The album was never finished. It will be interesting to see if her band pulls together to finish it as they would be the most likely ones to safeguard her musical legacy.

Amy was found dead at her London home at age 27. Enjoy some of her music and think a kind thought for her.

Visual Insights: Music: Britney Spears Performs Hold It Against Me

Pop singer Britney Spears gained her second U....

Visual Insights: Music: Britney Spears Performs Hold It Against Me: "From Denny: Louisiana girl Britney Spears, like most child artists, has seen her fair share of ups and downs on the road to personal maturity. Everyone here in Louisiana has an opinion about her, good and bad. She is a sweet, loving person though often lacking good judgment about those she chooses to bring close to her.

This song is great for dancing and a night out. As far as lyrics go they are simple and uninteresting. She starts with an interesting theme but does not develop it. The video production is visually exciting and well produced - and that's what saves this song - and the artist.

There is a whole range of visuals going on here in this music video that debuted on YouTube in February 2011, so take a look:"

Visual Insights: Music: Rapper Talib Kweli Performs Cold Rain, Get By on Colbert: "What I like about this group is they have created a more musically and mentally interesting version of hip hop and rap by adding the jazz vibe that winds through the music tying it all together."

Best Spiritual Posts: Christian Music: Fathers Day Song - My Dad by Abel Ullon

Best Spiritual Posts: Christian Music: Fathers Day Song - My Dad by Abel Ullon: "From Denny: Just in time for Father's Day is an original song from a South American artist now living in America, working on his American dream. He has a strong faith in God and weaves it into his music.

His parents are both musicians and started him young on a guitar. This song is a tribute to his father and, in a double meaning, it can also be seen as a tribute to Father God."

Art: Check Out Process 4 Famous Cartoonist Jeff Stahler

From Denny: In an informal interview this famous syndicated cartoonist talks about his cartooning process and how it evolves during his day. His manner is downright droll and rambling but we get to see him ink his cartoons about Donald Trump. He's been doing editorial cartoons for 28 years now. Take a look at his wonderfully messy attic studio that only a fellow creative soul can appreciate. :)

Video: Artist Creates Japan Tribute, Sunrise 2011 Project

From Denny: A Los Angeles Japanese-born artist is raising funds for Japanese earthquake-tsunami relief through the sale of her artwork of a Japanese goddess superimposed upon hundreds of sunrise photos. If you wish to contribute a sunrise photo to this project just email her: sunrise2011art@gmail.com.

You can also go to her art website where you can purchase a Sunrise 2011 Project T-Shirt. The funds all go to the Red Cross of Japan. This is her site: Drue Kataoka Artist

Funny Art Cartoon - What Love Is All About

From Denny: As an art lover I also love an artist with a sense of humor. Some of the most overlooked artists are cartoonists. Often they are taken for granted as we read in print or online our favorite daily newspaper. They depict our streaming politics, often lampooning policies or hypocritical politicians trying to sell a loser idea.

Today's art cartoon from Ballard Street is all about the art of assuaging a loved one's ego. Get a grin at this one:

Funny Art: Reading The Directions

From Denny: This painting is as delightful is as it's funny. How many times have men decided they know where they are going when driving only to get lost? Do you think they would ever stop and ask directions? Of course not. Nor do they seem to read a map very well. Leave it to the woman to get them to their destination - and in the desert and on a camel no less. A clever and talented artist with a sense of humor.
